SpellingJoy Reading

The moment they realize:
I can read.

From letter sounds to first stories.

How old is your child?

Levels 1 and 2 free. No card.

Which one starts with m?

Watch them light up.

Joy says every word, waits for every tap and cheers every win. Your child taps, hears it, and reads it.

Joy says every word aloud, and tapping is the whole interface.

Nobody gets stuck. A second wrong tap lights the right answer and Joy names it.

By the fifth sound they read their first page.

Gentle words only: “Let’s find m”, never “wrong”.

We've been using SpellingJoy and my child does not need an email or a password and we print the worksheets for practice at home.

It is easy to practice with. My students join with a code, no school emails. And it works on any device, my class asks for it, the kids enjoy it.

Our learners LOVE spelling joy! When I first started I only had a few lessons set up and they flew through them promptly requesting more work - we are an Acton Academy and learners can move at their own pace!

Learning to read through play

Every lesson is a short spot on a map: a picture to find, a word to build, a page to read. Joy says every word aloud, and tapping is the whole interface.

Nobody gets stuck. A second wrong tap lights the right answer and Joy names it. A third, and she does it with them.

Stories they can actually read

Every book is made only of the sounds and the few heart words your child already has. By the fifth sound they read their first page, “sam sat.” Joy reads with them, and waits.

A story page: a picture of a mouse and the sentence A mouse.

How we teach

  • One sound at a time, in the same sequence as UFLI Foundations.
  • A sound counts as known after three wins with nothing to copy, on two different days.
  • Gentle words only: “Let’s find m”, never “wrong”.
  • No ads, no timers, no reading level shown to the child.
The map of a course: levels and spots, a star on each finished spot.

A buddy of their own

Your child picks one, and it stays for the whole journey. Every finished spot earns a star; stars buy things for the buddy’s room, hats for the buddy, a garden, a beach, a room in space.

You see the day it clicks

The parents area shows what your child can do, from what they read on their own, not from taps: the sounds they know, the heart words, the pages read alone. Every Sunday, one email with the week. If they have not played for a couple of days, the buddy sends one short note.

The parents area: sounds known, heart words, pages read alone.

Questions

What age is it for?

Four to eight. A child who does not know any letters starts at the first sound. A child who knows some passes those lessons quickly.

How long is a lesson?

A spot is a few minutes. Your child can stop after any spot; the map remembers where they are.

Does my child need to read already?

No. The first lesson is the sound of m. Reading starts at the fifth sound with a real page.

What do I see as the parent?

Progress by sound and by word in the parents area, a weekly email, and the day it clicks.

What device do we need?

Any phone, tablet or laptop with a browser. Sound on.
